| Company Profile |
This web site was developed to enable potential
licensors (typically academic and other non-profit institutions) to market their
technology to potential licensees (commonly corporations seeking new technology)
directly via the internet. Unlike some internet brokering web firms we are not
limited to only one particular industry. We cover all major industries (e.g.,
biomedical, agricultural, computer hardware and software, materials, industrial engineering, etc.).
The site was developed by a team whose collective work
experience includes academic and industrial technology transfer. It was designed
to offer maximum flexibility over the type of information conveyed as well as
maximum control over the choice of recipients.
It does not require any special software or training to use
the site. All the resources necessary for disseminating information are
contained on the web site. They have been designed to be extremely user
friendly.
At the heart of the site are two separate databases that can be queried independently by either potential licensors (technology owners or sellers) or licensees (technology seekers or buyers). The licensee database contains the contact information of the individual(s) within an organization responsible for technology acquisition and his or her company’s “areas of interest.” The licensor database contains their counterparts contact information and areas of responsibility (e.g., biomedical technology). To ensure that the databases contain the most up-to-date information we have designed them to be password protected and maintained or kept current by registered users of the service. We do not charge any fees (e.g., subscription, success, etc.) to utilize the service. The site is totally free to all users. In order
to utilize the service all we require is that you register as either a seller or buyer of technology. It is our hope that by making the site free to everyone we will build a critical mass of users and in doing so we will make the marketing of technology a much easier, and less laborious process for everyone involved. We realize it may take some time to build a large user base so we encourage everyone to “spread the word.” The more institutions that use the service the more everyone will benefit.
To guard against any abuses (such as spamming of non-licensable technology or other inappropriate uses such as phishing) the system administrator will monitor transmissions that are sent between users to ensure that the site is being used only for its intended purpose. If it is discovered that any user is violating our policies and using the system for other than the expressed, intended purpose they will be removed and barred from future access. Acceptable information that can be transmitted by potential licensors include non-confidential summaries of available technologies. Acceptable information that can be transmitted by potential licensees include non-confidential lists of technology needs.
To utilize this service one must register on-line and choose a password. We require that you use your organization's email address as
your user ID.
To send information, a licensor would simply create a
document describing their technology in non-confidential terms using any common
word processing program (e.g., MS-WORD). This could be done anywhere on any PC
(desktop, laptop) at their leisure. They would then access our system, query the
licensee database to generate a list of firms whose research interests match
their available technology. (If they desire they could edit the list to exclude
anyone they wish.) Finally they would upload their document to
the web site and it would automatically email the document as an attachment to
the list of contacts. Alternatively, the licensor could download the table
containing the contact information as a HTML or comma-delimited file. They
can use this file at a later time to generate mailing labels, or to merge with a form letter by
importing the file into any spreadsheet that can read CSV or HTML documents. In
a similar fashion, licensees could email their technology needs to their
counterparts.
